New levels of automatic media handling using artificial intelligence and more smart workflow options than ever before  minimizing manual intervention, and speeding up  prints and profits. The automatic, accurate media handling feature takes the guess work out of setting up the printer. Just put the media roll on the feeder, and the GP-4600S loads it automatically, sensing the type and size of the paper and eliminating the chance of a stray fingerprint spoiling the job.

The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4600S includes a smart control panel, which tracks paper usage, tells the user how much paper is left, and if it’s enough to complete the job, eliminating the waste of time, paper and ink. Two sensors, one at the roll unit and the other near the printing area, measure how much media has been fed into the machine.   Most commonly used operations including ‘Load’, ‘Feed’ and ‘Cut’ are now hard keys on the control panel.

The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4600S includes a new version of Canon’s Professional Print & Layout software, featuring automated nesting, which arranges images to make the most economic use of the area to print, so you get the most out of the media.  Just drag and drop the images to be printed, and the software automatically works out what goes where. The software also features pattern printing, eliminating trial and error time-wasting on colour compensation.  Pattern printing prints multiple thumbnails to check brightness, contrast and other variables, so users can choose the best options before printing the final output, saving time, media and ink.

The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4600S delivers improved borderless printing in various formats, easy to do, and without the need for time-consuming finishing.  An advanced media sensor detects the edges and automatically adjusts the margins for pinpoint accuracy.  Choose ‘free’ size or three-sided borderless.

The robust chassis of the imagePROGRAF GP-4600S reduces vibrations, which improves the accuracy of the ink droplet placement. The Auto Skew Correction function guarantees that all types of paper, including thick paper, can be printed without misalignment and enables unattended printing by automatically adjusting for any skew in orientation and feeds the paper/media correctly. The vacuum feeding system keeps paper flat regardless of paper weight and type during printing, which helps ensure accurate placement of ink droplets on paper. The GP-4600S features a standby mode, which will periodically agitate the ink tanks and warms up the print head, keeping ink from drying up inside and clogging nozzles. In the event that a nozzle gets clogged, Canon has a non-firing nozzle detection and compensation system, which turns on back -up nozzles to prevent drop-outs during a print, ensuring highest quality prints every time.

The imagePROGRAF GP-4600S printer features Canon’s new LUCIA PRO II ink system. The LUCIA PRO II high longevity pigment ink system includes five newly formulated inks  including Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Grey.   The Matte Black and Orange inks are the same as used by the Canon imagePROGRAF GP 2000/ GP 4000 printers.    The LUCIA PRO II inks are available in 160ml, 330ml, and 700ml hot swap ink tanks for uninterrupted printing. LUCIA PRO II inks deliver a broader colour gamut when printing on fine art paper and expanded colour areas in dark areas. The LUCIA PRO II ink system features dedicated nozzles for each of the black inks (Photo and Matte Black), saving time and ink by eliminating the need to change inks when changing papers.

The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-4600S guarantees colour consistency between jobs and different production sites. The GP-4600S features a built-in colour density sensor to optimise output, adjusting the ink levels depending on the media being used, and ensuring consistent and accurate colour reproduction. MANUFACTURER INFORMATION

Canon imagePROGRAF PRO Series printers (PRO-2600, PRO-4600, PRO-6600, GP-2600S, GP-4600S, and GP-6600S) use a number of advanced Canon proprietary technologies. FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print-head technology and dual print head design features a total of 18,432 nozzles (1536 nozzles x 12 col0urs) into a 1.28″ high density print head. Bi-directional printing design of the imagePROGAF printers means print times are significantly faster than conventional print systems which require multiple passes for each line to compensate for uneven droplet size and placement on the paper. An innovative ink-nozzle manufacturing method results in precisely uniform minimum 4 picolitre droplets resulting in 2400 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.

Canon’s innovative LUCIA PRO II 12 pigment ink system incorporates 11 colours plus Chroma Optimizer and superfine 4-pl (picoliter) ink droplets, ensuring a wide colour gamut, smooth gradation, reduced graininess and reduced bronzing. Canon’s LUCIA PRO ink system delivers exceptionally accurate colours by including both RGB and CMYK. The LUCIA PRO II inks are delivered via the FINE print head with a tubular ink delivery system that results in faster printer speeds and enables stable, high quality printing. LUCIA Pro includes a newly formulated Photo Black ink and both Photo and Matte Black have their own channels, so no ink swap is needed when changing papers, increasing efficiency and improving resistance to clogging nozzles for consistent results. The 12 channel ink system enables economical printing because there is less need to blend colours (such as magenta and yellow to create red) and so less ink is required. Two grey inks are included, further reducing the need to blend colours and keeping costs down. Four monochromatic inks; black, matt black, grey, and photo grey inks, produce brilliant black and white photography reproduction delivering incredible lifelike photographs with exceptional detail, opening the door to numerous applications including wedding photography, christenings and the fast growing lifestyle portrait work. The Chroma Optimizer regulates the ink-droplet height for an even brilliance across the print surface for reduced bronzing. LUCIA PRO II ink systems have an innovative polymer structure that result in exceptional scratch resistance and protection from colour fading, while reducing bronzing to ensure durable, stable output for up to 200 years.

The LUCIA PRO 7 colour models (GP-2600S, GP-4600S and GP-6600S) produce vivid colour expression with low ink consumption on glossy paper by microencapsulated colour materials. 7 colour models arrange the key colours of cyan, magenta, yellow and matte black in a mirrored layout on the print head. Posters with high colour density can be created with fewer print passes at faster print speeds.

Canon’s new processing engine and printer architecture deliver further accuracy to ink ejection and limitation of colour unevenness. The new L-COA (Large Format printer Common Architecture) PRO image processing technology instantly determines optimal droplet combinations to deliver best results that are faithful to the original image. L-COA PRO delivers faster, high-quality output and print optimization by carefully calculating best results for each print mode and media using various factors including colour reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and elimination of metamerism, all of which contribute to creating an amazing printed image. L-COA PRO is combined with 3GB of standard memory and a 500GB encrypted hard disk, which enables high -speed processing of massive volumes of image data for demanding workflows. Additionally, the new two-way vacuum paper feeder keeps media flat and even, assisting with accuracy of ink ejection.

Canon’s Advanced Colour Calibration is a powerful built-in colour calibration system ensuring the most stable colour reproduction attainable, preventing variability of colour output by aging changes or printer differences. In conventional systems, changing print heads may cause a minute variation in print output, due to the density characteristics of the print head. With Canon’s Advanced Colour Calibration, a multi-sensor measures variations in density on a printed calibration chart and then automatically applies any appropriate adjustments to ensure an exact match for long-term consistency.
