What’s New at Mutoh: Brother Acquisition Completes, Plus New Eco-Solvent and DTF Printers

It’s been an eventful few months for Mutoh, with a major change in ownership alongside a couple of solid new product launches. Here’s what’s happened and what it means if you’re running — or considering — a Mutoh large format printer.

Brother completes its £170m acquisition of Mutoh

Brother Industries finalised its acquisition of Mutoh Holdings on 30 March 2026, having secured 88% of voting rights through a tender offer worth roughly ¥35 billion (around £170m). Mutoh will keep its Tokyo headquarters and continue operating under its own brand as a consolidated Brother subsidiary, with its UV-LED, eco-solvent, dye-sublimation and direct-to-textile printer lines, cutting plotters and RIP software folded into Brother’s Printing & Solutions division. Brother has been clear that the deal is about scale — joint procurement, manufacturing standardisation and access to its wider global sales and service network — rather than winding anything down, so it’s a vote of confidence in Mutoh’s technology rather than a sign of change for the worse.

New eco-solvent printer: the XpertJet 1681SR Pro

Mutoh used this year’s FESPA to debut the XpertJet 1681SR Pro, a 64-inch roll-to-roll eco-solvent printer built around Mutoh’s AccuFine HD Pro print head, running at speeds of up to 17m²/hr. It’s paired with a new 8-colour MS51 eco-solvent ink set (CMYK plus light cyan, light magenta, orange and red) aimed at stronger warm tones and more accurate reds. The ink set carries UL GREENGUARD Gold certification and is GBL-free, making it a solid option for indoor-focused work as well as outdoor graphics.

Moving into DTF with the STS XPD-924D

Mutoh has also expanded into direct-to-film with the STS XPD-924D, a 24-inch DTF printer aimed at high-volume apparel and accessories production. It uses staggered dual AccuFine HD printheads, runs at up to 12.9m²/hr in dual-layer CMYK+White mode, and needs no pre-treatment before printing. A built-in white ink circulation system helps keep maintenance down, and it’s rolling out across EMEA through Mutoh’s authorised reseller network.
