Bring your images to life with richer colours and
deeper blacks
Glamour™ II has been developed to protect,
preserve and enhance fine art and photographic prints
produced on digital inkjet printers. This new non
yellowing, water based varnish is a perfect solution
for easy inkjet print finishing. Glamour™ II
will enhance the colour of pigmented and ultrachrome
inks on matte media and increase resistance to image
fading. Additionally, it will protect your expensive
images against moisture and abrasion.
Glamour™ II has been specifically developed
as a water based product to avoid the unpleasant and
hazardous fumes given off by solvent based products
and is an absolutely perfect compliment to our very
own Brilliance™ range. The combination of Glamour™
II Veneer with Brilliance "Chromata White"
Canvas (free of optical brightener additives) delivers
the most archival and colour-stable fine art reproduction
available.
Uniquely, Glamour™ II also works perfectly
with our Elegance™ 310g Fine Art Paper and Sterling™
Photo Matte to create stunning gloss/semi-gloss archival
fine art prints on 100% cotton rag paper. Ultrachrome
Matte Black Ink users can now produce gloss/semi-gloss
prints without bronzing issues.
In smaller production, Glamour™ II should be
roll brush applied. Only one coat is necessary. Glamour™
II can also be brush applied, sprayed and used in
roll coaters. The product has self-leveling qualities
that make it virtually ideal for one-step hassle free
coating and no streaks.
Glamour™ II is available in Gloss and Matte
finishes. Furthermore, Gloss and Matte can be mixed
together, enabling you to creatively produce your
own perfect look and feel. Whether it be gloss, semi-gloss,
semi-matte - the choice is completely yours.

How To Apply Glamour™ II Veneer (Roller Foam
Application)

left of this page
NOTES:
Glamour™ II is a concentrated formula and
should be diluted with distilled* water before use.
Breathing Color™ recommends 30-40% water for
use with a roller foam applicator on canvas.
This variation in water is not usually critical to
the results but we have found that 1 part water to
2 parts Glamour™ II works very effectively and
tend to recommend this as a rule for use on canvas.
Less water is recommended for fine art papers –
perhaps only 10-20%.
Glamour™ II must be used on water-resistant
inkjet media only.
*Breathing Color™ recommends using distilled
water for mixing with Glamour™ II to eliminate
possible contaminates. Many customers, through their
own choice are successfully using Glamour™ II
with normal tap water.
Materials Required
-
Foam Roller & Tray – make sure the
foam roller you use is made of high density foam
to eliminate air bubbles and is rounded at both
ends to reduce the risk of streaking.

Application Instructions (on inkjet canvas)
-
Before adding the water to the coating Breathing
Color™ recommends heating the water in the
microwave for about 7 - 10 seconds depending on
the amount of water that you are using. This is
not essential but has been found to help in achieving
a more consistent mixture with the Glamour™
II. The water should be above luke warm but not
boiling.
-
When adding the water, stir lightly and slowly.
Stirring too quickly or vigorously can cause air
bubbles which if applied to the print can be hard
to remove and may be visible when the coating dries.
-
When you first apply Glamour™ II Veneer
to your print be very generous with the application.
Some of our customers have found success in pouring
the coating directly onto the print in even lines
across the whole print, varying the number of lines
depending on the print size. The roller is then
simply used to spread the coating around evenly
– using the same direction of movement.
-
Do not try to work the product into the canvas
too strongly and use only the weight of the roller
to spread the Glamour™ II – additional
pressure may lead to streaking.
-
If you decide to apply the veneer without pouring
it directly onto the print, it is recommend that
you stay away from the ‘bumpy’ part
of the roller tray as this can cause damage or indentations
to the roll which may transfer to the print and
leave some areas less covered.
-
Try to go over the print with the roller the
least amount of times possible as this actually
removes the coating, reduces the protection and
increases the risk of streaking rather than reducing
it. If you have been generous enough in the application,
the levelling agents in Glamour™ II will cause
the streaks to go away during drying.
-
One application is usually sufficient if applied
correctly but additional coats can be added to correct
areas if necessary or to increase the level of gloss
if using Glamour™ II Gloss.
-
Allow the print to dry before stretching or mounting.
Glamour™ II - Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How do I apply Glamour™ II?
Please refer to the Breathing Color™ demonstration
video to learn how to properly apply the product.
Q2. How much should I dilute Glamour™ II?
Glamour™ II can be diluted by different amounts
of water depending on application method, media being
used, humidity and personal preference. For the following
application methods on canvas we recommend the following
dilutions: Roller Foam Application 1 part water :
2 parts Glamour™ II HVLP or Roll Coating Machine
1 part water : 1 part Glamour™ II Brush applied
– for brush strokes 1-2 parts water : 8-9 parts
Glamour™ II
Q3. How long does Glamour™ II take to dry?
This product, like any other varnish and veneer should
be allowed time to dry sufficiently before mounting
or stretching. Glamour™ II is a water-based
coating therefore drying time can vary depending on
conditions such as temperature and humidity. Generally
it will dry from 30 minutes to two hours and most
frequently around 40 minutes to an hour.
Q4. Can I use Glamour II on papers and other substrates,
or only canvas?
Glamour II can be used on most water resistant substrates.
It will however smear the ink on a print if the substrate
is not water resistant. Many people are successfully
using Glamour II with watercolour papers, canvases,
and vinyl products. Application onto papers is generally
more difficult than onto canvas and requires more
care.
Q5. Can I use Glamour™ II on my dye based inks?
Because Glamour™ II Veneer is a water-based
coating, you must be more careful when applying it
to canvas that has been printed with dye-based ink
than with pigment-based inks. Therefore prints should
only be coated once they have had a chance to completely
dry for 24 hours. When coating, use very little pressure
with the roller as to not disturb the dye ink. If
you allow ample drying time and do not apply pressure
to the roller when coating and you are using a water
resistant canvas, Glamour II should work very well
without any problems.
Q6. Should I coat my prints before or after I stretch?
Because this product is very pliable and stretchable,
most customers choose to coat before stretching –
it will not crack or become brittle over time like
many other coatings are known to do. Additionally
it helps to protect the canvas print at the time of
stretching and commonly eliminates the inks cracking
around the edges of the stretcher bars.
Q7. Can I store Glamour™ II after dilution?
Breathing Color™ recommends that you mix the
required amount of Glamour™ II for each print
job as the diluted product may be prone to separate
and harden over time. If you do need to store some
that is pre-mixed seal it in an air-tight container
and use as quickly as possible.
Q8. Can I paint on top of the applied coating?
Glamour II has been known to work with various artist
paints for embellishment, however it is always recommended
that you perform a test with a small scrap of coated
canvas to asses for any negative reactions.
Q9. Can I roll up a canvas print once coated with
Glamour™ II?
Once the print has completely dried, you should have
no problem rolling it up. Keep in mind that when the
print is exposed to extremely hot or humid temperatures,
it may have a tendency to soften and stick to itself.
For this reason it is always recommended to protect
each print with a sheet of an acid-free barrier paper.
Q10. How do I clean up after using Glamour™
II?
You should only need to use water to clean your roller
and tray after coating as Glamour™ II is a water-based
product and washes away easily. Make sure you remove
all of the coating otherwise it will dry hard and
any remaining product may effect your next coating
job.
